Filament silk (Mulberry silk)

The mulberry silkworm (bombyx mori) spins a particularly fine, even, almost pure white continuous thread (up to 1.200 metres long). This is in the interior of the cocoon. The silk filament is then unwound (filature). The silk can then be dyed in the brightest colours and woven into the finest material. Hand-weaving also increases the intensity of the colour.

This silk thread is the strongest of all natural fibres, equivalent in strength to a steel thread of the same diameter.

Filament silk is considered the most valuable silk of all and is the product of thousands of years of rearing.

Double thread (2-ply): two continuous threads are twisted together. This brings out the textile character of the hand-woven silk and increases both wearer comfort and physical resilience (e.g. tear strength).
