Care instructions for pure silk
You have purchased a very noble piece of clothing of extremely high quality. It has been exclusively handmade of pure mulberry silk, the most precious kind of silk. It is hand woven in the traditional way and sewn skilfully.
The adequate care will preserve the pleasure you have in the intensive colours and the appearance of your silk item.
Please wash your silk clothing softly by hand in cold or - at the most - luke warm water with a non-alkaline mild detergent or a special detergent for wools or even with a mild hair shampoo. Don’t leave soaking for more than three minutes - and please no soaking at all for pieces of dark colours.
Move the material softly to and fro while washing it, but don’t wring.
After a maximum of three minutes please take the silk out of the water and rinse it with cold water and a tablespoonful of white wine vinegar to conserve its brilliant colour.
After that please roll the silk clothing in a dry towel and softly press out the remaining water, but don’t wring. Then lay out the piece of clothing flatly on the towel pulling the edgings slightly into their correct form. A larger piece of clothing can as well be put on a hanger to dry. Never expose the drying silk to direct sun light.
Ironing. Silk should be ironed on its inner side (on the ‘wrong’ side). It is very helpful to iron when the silk has not yet completely dried. Please iron on low level. We also recommend to use a protecting cloth between the silk and the iron. This cloth should be damp of the silk is already too dry. Please don’t splash the silk with water while ironing it.
Silk items can of course be dry cleaned, too, which we actually recommend for all accessories (like handbags e.g.). Ikat shawls, chenille shawls as well as all items with rubber bands should be dry cleaned in any case.
